In the dictionary, the word “God” means a “supreme being.” That is not a good description of the God of the Bible. A better portrayal would be:
El Shaddai (occurs seven times; first used in Genesis 17:1)
Lord God Almighty; The All Sufficient One; More Than Enough
El Elyon (occurs 28 times; first used in Genesis 14:18)
The Most High God
Jehovah Nissi (occurs only once in Exodus 17:15)
The Lord My Banner
Jehovah-Raah (Psalm 23)
The Lord My Shepherd
Jehovah Rapha (Exodus 15:26)
The Lord That Heals
Jehovah Shammah (Ezekiel 48:35)
The Lord Is There
Jehovah Tsidkenu (occurs twice; first used in Jeremiah 23:6)
The Lord, My Righteousness (right standing with God)
Jehovah Mekoddishkem (occurs twice; first used in Exodus 31:13)
The Lord My Sanctification
El Olam (Genesis 21:33)
The Everlasting God

Elohim (Genesis 1:1)
God, Judge, Creator
Qanna (occurs six times; first used in Exodus 20:5)
Jehovah Jireh (occurs only once in Genesis 22:14)
The Lord Will Provide
Jehovah Shalom (occurs only once in Judges 6:24)
The Lord is Peace (or completeness. There is nothing missing or broken).
The Lord of Armies (spiritual and earthly)
Jehovah Gmolah (Jeremiah 51:56)
The Lord My Rewarder
What name stands out to you? Jehovah Gmolah is one of my favorites. This name reminds me that I should never trust man for my reward. For instance, even if I deserve a raise and don’t get it, if I sow seeds into the Kingdom, obey His Word and trust my Father, He will see to it that I prosper.
Isn’t it wonderful to know the Lord cares about your every need? Call upon the name that fits your situation. He will be that to you.
The Lord freely makes Himself available. That’s why He invites you to come boldly to His throne. He wants you to experience all that He is. You can! Open your heart. Push past the doubt and the limitations. Don’t hem the Father in. He is way too big for that! Lean in to take hold of what you want Him to be.
Yes, God certainly is a supreme being. But these titles reveal so much more. They show the intimate relationship He wants to have with you.
