How to Stand on the Word of God

We are constantly exhorted to stand on God’s Word but HOW do you do that?

Say a bill comes in the mail and you don’t have the money to pay it. You don’t see how you’re going to afford to pay it. Find a scripture in the Bible that supports what you need from God. For instance, Philippians 4:19 says God will meet all your needs. Bring that verse to the Lord. Say, “Lord, you promised here in Philippians 4:19 to supply all my needs. I receive this promise. I take it. It’s mine in the name of Jesus. I trust you to bring in the money.”

That kind of prayer is in line with what Jesus said in Mark 11:24:

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Notice that you have to believe and receive when you pray. Believe means to agree with what God says in spite of the circumstances. Receive means to seize what you desire. Now, you must act like your desire is already yours.

Act like your desire is already yours. Let’s talk about that for a moment. What if a friend called you up and said “I’m bringing over a bag of the sweetest oranges you’ve ever tasted?” You’d be full of anticipation if you loved oranges. You’d think about the oranges, see yourself with them, see your friend bringing them to you. You would see yourself eating one of those oranges. You would not be fearful that your friend was lying to you because he or she is someone you trust. Take on this same behavior towards God. He is someone you can absolutely depend on. He never goes back on His Word. See yourself with what you desire. That’s what it means to act like it’s already yours.

The enemy will hit you with doubt. Refuse those thoughts and speak the Philippians 4:19 promise (and any other Bible promises that back up what you need from God).

Spend time meditating on the promises of God to strengthen your faith. There will be moments when you will have to wage warfare as the enemy bombards your mind with unbelief. Continually cast down the lies of the devil. Hold on to the Word of God by making up your mind to believe what God says OVER what the devil says.

When you stand on God’s Word you will act like your desire is already yours.

Going back to our example about the unpaid bill, refuse discouragement when the creditor calls or sends more correspondence about the bill and you still don’t have the money to pay it. Don’t allow yourself to be overcome by pressure to take action. Doing so will lead you down the wrong road and make the matter worse. Instead, focus on the Word, knowing that God is faithful. Listen for His voice

Speak out the promises of God. Cast down the lies of the devil. Praise God for the victory. Walk in peace. Do this until the problem is solved.

This is how you stand on God’s Word. You might not see the resolution of your situation but God sees. Remember that.
