How to Prosper in Every Area of Life: Proverbs 3:1-10

Did you know that the Bible is full of formulas? It has step-by-step directions on how to get from Point A to Point B. That’s because God does not make His directives complicated. He is very straightforward because He wants you to do His will so that you can prosper in your spirit, soul, and body.

Today I want to share with you a formula found in Proverbs 3:1-10 that will help you prosper spiritually, mentally, emotionally and financially. As I read these verses recently, I realized they are grouped together for a reason. They are in the order they appear for a reason.

1 I want to share with you My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands;

2 For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you.

In your Christian walk, you have to put first things first. Here God is letting you know what is most important: His law. The Lord cautions you to not forget His law (the Bible). That means that you should take time throughout the day to think about the Word of God. You can bring verses to mind during break times at work, while sitting in waiting rooms or while riding the bus. You should set aside some alone time to ponder the Word of God.

As you think about the Word of God, put it into practice. For instance, the Bible instructs us to love others. I Corinthians Chapter 13 says love is kind. So, you can practice kindness towards others.

Remembering God’s Word and responding to it will cause you to reap a LONG LIFE filled with PEACE. I don’t know about you but I could live on that understanding alone for the next several years! But the Lord is not finished. There is MORE.

3 Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart,

4 And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man.

God want us to walk in mercy. That means NOT being critical of others. When you see someone down, don’t kick them! Help them up. Pray for them.

Truth is a scarce commodity these days. People make the truth into a lie and the lie into the truth. I have been in conversations with people who have tried to convince me that what they plainly said is not really what they said even though it’s in writing clear as day.

Why is truth so important? It sets men free! John 8:32 says that you can know the truth and the truth will make you free.

The Lord tells you in Proverb 3:3 to bind mercy and truth around your neck, to write it on your heart. In other words, KEEP IT CLOSE.

When you walk in mercy and truth, you are being just like Jesus. He was full of mercy and He IS the truth.

Walking in mercy and truth has its reward too: favor and high esteem with God AND man.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.

8 It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.

Trusting in the Lord to the point of not depending on your own understanding of a situation is one of the biggest challenges you will face. It is sometimes difficult to follow God’s leading when you judge by what you see and know; especially if the Lord is telling you to do something that is contrary to what you believe should happen. Still, you must learn to embrace God’s thinking on every matter. The result is the right path revealed and HEALTH!

9 Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase;

10 So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.

When you honor God, He will honor you. The firstfruit (mentioned throughout the Old Testament) is about putting first things first. You have already seen what comes before money: a godly lifestyle.

The rewards of living a godly life are better than money: health, long life, peace, favor with God and man. These gifts are invaluable! Yet God also wants to bless you financially when you honor him in the financial realm by sowing financial seeds.

Love,

Karin
