Be Original and Become the Powerful Person God Designed You to Be

The best advice I can give you today is be original. In other words, be yourself! Stop trying to act like someone else. Stop wishing you had your best friend’s qualities. Take time to appreciate YOU.

Why is it important to be original? Let’s start by looking at what original means:

Created directly and personally by a particular artist; not a copy or imitation.

God is the artist! You are not a copy or imitation of anyone. You are unique. God made you on purpose the way you are. He needs your strengths, abilities and gifts. You are a critical part of His master plan to build His Kingdom, to spread the Word of God. It’s time to accept your background, looks, weight, height. You can reach someone I cannot reach. A person might not respond to me but they might listen to you.

Be original in Jesus. You see, like all Christians, you have some growing and maturing to do. That process comes with the territory.

Needing to change doesn’t mean you are a horrible person. It only means the Holy Spirit desires to do a sanctifying work in your heart.

When you decide to be original, your life becomes filled with power and beauty. God’s character, together with the unique qualities that make up who you are, will help you stand in the place the Lord created for you in the Body of Christ. You will influence others. You will be a blessing!

It takes courage to be original.

There is nothing wrong with admiring another. Others can motivate you to be better and stronger. However, you are fashioned for a specific purpose. If you are meant to be a hand, there’s no point in falling into depression because you are not a foot. Feet are necessary but so are hands! 1 Corinthians 12:14-20 addresses this subject. Read it here.

It takes courage to be original. If you’re like me you’ve been laughed at, teased and scorned because of the way you talk, dress, look, walk, eat, whatever. (People who don’t feel good about themselves will find anything to criticize.) These experiences probably produced feelings of inferiority. You may have tried to copy someone who appears more acceptable. Beloved, that is not God’s way. Dress the way you want. Wear your hair in the style you desire. Walk your walk! Talk in your natural voice. As you do, know that you are loved and accepted by God.

Of course, you have the potential to become better at anything. You can improve your style and speech. But in the end you want to act like YOU, not someone else.

Let me say it again. God needs YOU. He made you the way you are. Be original. Don’t let anyone discourage you.
