Online Bible Study: Studying the Bible Any Time or PlaceI am encouraged by Biblegateway.com’s mission to use the Internet to glorify God. Not only can the Bible be accessed from a computer but also through an app. Believers can now redeem the time and conduct online Bible study any time from their smartphones and tablets.

Since getting an iPhone last year, I have engaged in a lot of online Bible study. In fact, I probably read the Bible more online than reading from a printed copy. I love the freedom my iPhone gives me by allowing me to read the Bible in a waiting room or riding the bus to work without having to carry around a bulky printed copy of the Bible.

There are many websites on the Internet where you can do online Bible study. Biblegateway.com is my favorite. I enjoy the significant number of resources offered. Here are three:

Bible Passage Lookup. When you visit Biblegateway.com from your computer, you will find more than 100 translations. I enjoy viewing Bible verses side by side in several translations. The Voice and the Complete Jewish Bible are my two top choices of easy-to-read versions of the Bible. You can find both on Biblegateway.com.

The app doesn’t offer as many translations as the website. Still, there are several available. You can highlight verses, copy and paste to share with your friends and even make notes.

Keyword Search. I usually search from the KJV version because I am most familiar with it. Once I find the verses I am looking for, I look them up in other translations.

Topical Indexes. I searched Nave’s Topical Bible for “Rahab” and received a list of 16 instances where this name appears in scripture. If I were using online Bible study to check Rahab’s life, this would be a great resource. Torrey’s New Topical Textbook is another choice available when you are looking for Bible themes.

Biblegateway.com also offers an audio Bible, Bible reading plans, newsletters, devotionals and more. Check out these features and those described above. And, don’t forget to take a look at the What’s New section to discover how you can build your own library of bible study and reference books, see the new biblegateway.com website that is coming soon and take the Bible Quote Quiz.

Love,

Karin
