what becomes of the brokenhearted? In 1966, Jimmy Ruffin recorded a song titled What Becomes of the Brokenhearted? The song is very moving and the lyrics sad. It’s about a man who has experienced a breakup or lost the love of a woman through death. He is brokenhearted and feels no hope in finding love again. However, the song does end on a positive note as the man decides to search everywhere for love until he finds it.

Are you brokenhearted? Perhaps you’ve lost love through a broken engagement, your spouse walking out on you or death. Maybe a dream you poured your heart into didn’t come to pass like you expected. Maybe someone you trusted betrayed you. If you are feeling devastated, I have some good news. I can tell you what becomes of the brokenhearted. Isaiah 61:1 tells us that our Lord came to heal the brokenhearted. Psalm 147:3 says He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

The devil wants to use your derailed plans to discourage you but God is using them to re-direct you. He wants to use this circumstance to lead you exactly where He wants you to be.

In Acts 16, we learn that Paul towards Asia to preach the Word but the Lord stopped him. So, Paul and his crew headed towards Bithynia and the Spirit of Jesus led them away from there as well. That’s when Paul had a vision. He saw a man from Macedonia saying to Paul, “Come over into Macedonia and help us” (verse 9.) So, the men headed towards Macedonia, a region of Europe.

Once they arrived, the men probably wondered where they would preach their first sermon. I’m sure they made inquiries. They learned of a place along the shores of the river which flowed through Philippi into the Aegean Sea. This was a meeting place for worshippers of God set apart by Roman authorities. It was here Paul delivered the Word of God. It was here Christianity gained its first European convert – a woman named Lydia, a successful businesswoman. This was the start of the Gospel message spreading throughout Europe.

God longs to give you a vision of the future. He longs to do something special and unique with your life. Though you feel you’re on sinking sand, He has firm and solid place for you to stand.

Here’s more good news for the brokenhearted. Like the man in the song you don’t have to search everywhere for love. Love has already come to you. Love is a Heavenly Father who gave the best He had to offer, His Son Jesus. Love’s name is Jesus who laid down His life for you. Love’s name is The Holy Spirit, your Comforter and Guide. God has not left you helpless and hopeless. He is here to comfort, encourage and heal.
