Someone Needs Your Ability So Don't Hold Back

During my school years, I was involved in choir, glee club and chamber singers. Back then I was a bit cocky about my musical talent. Then suddenly life changed and I didn’t have opportunities to use my ability. Years went by without using my voice.

One day God began dealing with me about using my voice again. When I opened my mouth I got a new revelation about that old saying “use it or lose it.” It was awful. However, I didn’t allow myself to become too discouraged. I just kept singing along with my CD’s and eventually loosened up my vocal cords. Eventually, I gained enough confidence to begin planning to use my voice professionally. I’m not looking to become the next big sensation – my goal is to simply use my ability in accordance with God’s plan.

At the same time, I have a much more realistic view of my musical ability. I am not the greatest or the absolute best. No, I’ve abandoned those thoughts. Still, I have something to offer and so do you. God has given you something, be it a voice, the ability to dance, play an instrument, paint, write, teach, or deliver a speech.

You might be reluctant to use your gift because there are others who have the same. But you are unique and no one can express your ability like you. I want to emphasize what I before stated. It’s not about being the absolute best. It’s about using what God has given you according to His design and reaching your own personal potential.

There might be something on your heart now and you’ve held back because you don’t think you are good enough. But if you start where you are now, God will increase your skill. You have the potential to be a blessing to those who need what you have.

God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible — 2 Timothy 1:6.
